Dandelion and the 3 Celestial Bodies

By: Cathryn Barkulis-Smith – aka: “Simply Cathryn”

Dandelion is the only flower that represents the 3 celestial bodies of the sun, moon and stars. The yellow flower resembles the sun, the puff ball resembles the moon and the dispersing seeds resemble the stars. They open to greet the morning and close in the evening to go to sleep.

One of the “Reasons for this Season” spring in functional medicine points to all the greens ~ creator provides us as medicine! In TCM or Chinese traditional medicine the body cycles want to fast and to be cleansed to greet the  new year as found in Spring’s Renewal! Thus creator provides us the humble and one of my favorites ~ the dandelion with all of its wishes!

Dandelions can be used in our salad bowls or stirfry’s or found in capsules or as a nutrient in a cup of tea. Every part of this humble plant has been used in many cultures for centuries to cleanse the liver, kidneys, blood and skin issues! Dandelion is amazing for the liver and gallbladder to filter out toxins to purify the blood.

Posse, did you know the personality or expression of the liver is frustration and
anger? Find your fuse a little bit on the short end? Lord knows we could all cool off a bit on that note, considering all the bad Tidbits we’ve been asked to swallow, obey and just shut up! The more cooling greens we can consume, the more balance and support our liver’s  will receive in these frustrating times!  Balanced livers aid in better sleep as well!

The enzyme compounds increase bile secretion in the liver, inhibits inflammation, cirrhosis and  constipation. Very good for gout, heartburn urinary, digestion, high blood pressure and heart weakness! Every part of This humble plant; is a beautiful example of using food as our medicine in Gaia’s apothecary!
